What are your coins worth? This is important for you and us to know if you want to sell your coin collection through our auction. The value of the coins forms the basis for determining a starting price. Rarity affects the sale’s results. Our numismatician takes various details into account, such as the rarity, quality and intrinsic value of metal (gold/silver). We will provide you with further information about these details below. Contact us if you want to sell coins, and we will arrange a free appraisal to determine the value. This can be done at our office, but you can also take photos for a preliminary estimate and send them to us by e-mail or WhatsApp.

Rare coins
A rare coin has a potentially high value, but this may also apply to old medals as well as banknotes. The rarity factor is present, for example, if your coins were part of a small circulation. Coin collectors would like to get their hands on such coins and are prepared to make high bids ot obtain them. This includes rare old medals, old coins or securities.
Quality of old coins
The quality of old coins, medals or securities affects the value. Our expert examines the coins or banknotes to assess the quality. It is important whether or not the coin has been in circulation. A banknote that has folds or a tear is worth less than a completely intact banknote. With a medal, it is important that the patina layer is formed in a proportional way. Our expert in determining the value of coins can see quite quickly whether the quality is good which result into a realistic appraisal.
Precious metals: gold or silver
There are coins that are particularly valued by the silver or gold content and that of course has an influence on the auction value. Experience shows that this intrinsic value of an old coin has a great influence on the selling price.
Highest value
A coins sells very well when several ingredients come together. This increases the chance of a high hammer price during our coin auction. We are pleased to give you an example of this. In our 2020 auction we sold a gold medal from 1610 which depicts Prince Maurits. The three ingredients for determining the value of coins came together here. The rarity factor was present (old, small circulation) and the old medal was of good quality. In addition, there was an intrinsic value due to the gold content. The gold medal was sold in 2020 for an amount of no less than €38,000 (excluding buyer’s premium).
